I decided to try and model something completely from scratch by myself where I had no internet guides to help me, and I thought my sons toy plane looked like a decent candidate.
Both renders were rendered in Cycles with 2048 samples. Here is what the plane looks like in real life:
It was a good challenge and I didn’t find it all easy. Quite a few pieces of the model I’d make them once, then scrap them and make them again, only to scrap those as well to do over again. I think that’s just necessary practice though to learn what works and what doesn’t, and hopefully next time around I won’t be making the same sets of mistakes.
In other news, I finished the Affinity courses I was watching, and am now working my way through this course on Davinci Resolve to learn video editing. I’m hoping that as my skills continue to improve I’ll be able to start doing some more animations, so it makes sense to learn how to edit those videos a bit too.
So going forward, this is going to be my software suite:
- Blender
- Unreal Engine
- Affinity Photo and Affinity Design
- Davinci Resolve
My focus is going to be on mastering the first two, whilst knowing just enough to be dangerous with the other three.
