New PC Build

My next update after this one is going to be showing some texturing with Substance Painter, but even that application wouldn’t work well on my old PC. Actually the Substance Launcher wouldn’t work at all - somehow it made the WMI Provider Host process spiral out of control taking 100% of the CPU and leaving everything unuseable.

It looks like here in Hong Kong it’s a little easier to get hold of some of these hard to find components, and I was very lucky to snag a 5950X only a couple of days after release. My new build looks like this:

I kept my 512GB Samsung SATA SSD and my 2TB Seagate HDD, although the Linux disk utility reported bad sectors in the Seagate so I’ve gone ahead and ordered another Seagate Barracuda 8TB replacement. I know these disks are SMR and not particularly good but I don’t really need good read/write speed, just somewhere to dump files that will rarely change again.

The computer I’ve been using up until now was an I5-6600 and a GTX 970, and so far the difference is staggering.
