So I downloaded the 30 day trial of Substance and also purchased this course to learn how to use it. I just completed the first project for a Flybot which turned out like this below. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the render within Substance Painter to work, so this is just a screenshot from the editor window.
This flybot has clearly been through a lot, given the broken glass, burn marks and scratches on him. But now that he has escaped and finds himself outside - he’s finally able to let out a big smile! :)
So this was a fun little project, Substance Painter is a really cool piece of software. Before starting this course I had no idea how you would go about texturing something like this, so it was really eye opening just how much you can do with relatively little effort. It’s also really helped fill in the gaps for what the pipeline would be for creating game assets, and I’m looking forward to whipping up a few things in Blender, texturing them myself in Substance and then creating something cool with them in Unreal.
