Applied Rigids

So I wanted to do a bit more Houdini now that I’ve got my new rig up and running, and WOW what a difference!! I’ve already done two of the three free Applied Houdini tutorials here and here, so I figured doing the third would be a good way to learn something new as well as see how Houdini performs now.

My last posts on Houdini were critical as I was plagued with stability issues, but on Linux with the new hardware it felt rock solid. Honestly despite all the problems before there’s something really appealing about Houdini, it just seems so capable of doing so much with so little. I’m not sure if learning Houdini would be of much benefit to me at all if I did move into game development one day, but I think I’m going to stick with it a little longer for now.

As for this simulation itself, the most obvious problems are at the end the small pieces continue to roll around and never really settle in place. There are probably easy solutions out there for this problem … but I don’t know what they are yet :)
